RENEWAL OF MNJTF MANDATE

The mandate of the Multi National Joint Task Force ( MNJTF) has been extended by 1 year until Feb 1 2024. The Peace and Security Council of the African Union ( AU) voted to extend the mandate of the MNJTF. This followed a brief and reports by the Commissioner of Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union, Ambassador Adeoye Bankole, the Executive Secretary of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) Ambassador Mamman Nuhu and the Force Commander (FC) of the MNJTF, Maj Gen Abdul Khalifah Ibrahim on Monday 12 December 2022. Members of the Council paid glowing tributes to officers and men of the MNJTF and prayed for the repose of those who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. They however urged the MNJTF to conduct more operations and induce the terrorists to surrender unconditionally. They promised to increase their support the MNJTF and urged member countries to assist in any way they can.

  1. Commenting on the renewal of the mandate, the FC thanked the members for their confidence in the MNJTF and promised to galvanize the MNJTF to achieve it’s mandate. He appreciated the gallantry and dedication of members of the MNJTF.
