  • MNJTF INTENSIFIES COLLABORATION WITH DCI ON COUNTER IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE TRAINING FOR TROOPS

As part of efforts to enhance Counter -Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) capability in the Lake Chad Region, the Multinational Joint Tasks Force (MNJTF) has successfully conducted a 4-week training course for its troops in the various sectors in collaboration with Defence Council International (DCI) and funded by the European Union.

The 4-week training, held in N’Djamena, focused on equipping MNJTF troops with critical skills necessary for effective counter-terrorism operations. Participants were trained in essential areas such as basic tracking, intelligence gathering, and the identification of IED components. The curriculum also covered immediate survivability, IED placement, and disposal techniques, ensuring a comprehensive approach to countering the IED threat.

At the closing ceremony, the Force Commander of the MNJTF Major General Ibrahim Ali represented by the Deputy Force Commander Air Vice Marshal Mahamat Yaya Mahamat lauded the participants for their dedication and commitment during the course after carrying out on the spot assessment on the participants .He underscored the importance of the training in boosting technical skills and fortifying the collective resolve to tackle the persistent IED menace in the Lake Chad Region . He emphasized the invaluable knowledge and expertise gained, particularly in intelligence analysis, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance resources, which are crucial for mission success and troop safety.

According to the Deputy Force Commander the training has not only enhanced MNJTF’s technical capabilities but also fostered a culture of vigilance, adaptability, and continuous learning. He stated that collaboration and exchange of expertise between the partners and MNJTF will continue to strengthen unity and resolve to overcome the challenges posed by IEDs.

The representative from DCI General Caiazzo Stephane Retired expressed gratitude to the European Union for facilitating the training, highlighting its significance in enhancing the MNJTF’s ability to combat terrorism in the region. The European Union representative Mr Emmanuel Gastine echoed these sentiments, stressing the necessity of the training in light of the increased use of IEDs by terrorist groups. He urged the troops to apply their newly acquired knowledge effectively in the field.

The closing ceremony climaxed with the presentation of certificates to the participants who cut across the various Sectors of MNJTF.

The successful completion of the C-IED training Course represents a pivotal step in enhancing the operational effectiveness and resilience of the MNJTF. It showcases the commitment of the international community to supporting regional efforts in combating terrorism and underscores the importance of continuous improvement and shared knowledge in addressing evolving threats.

This initiative not only strengthens the MNJTF’s counter-IED capabilities but also reinforces the broader goal of achieving lasting peace and security in the Lake Chad Basin, demonstrating a united front against terrorism.
