MNJTF: A UNIQUE MODEL IN PEACE AND SECURITY OPERATIONS – AU COMMISSIONER

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has been described as a unique model in Peace and Security Operations from which the African Union and others could learn a great deal in terms of planning and design of anti-terrorism operations and compliance with International Human Rights Law and Human Rights. This assertion was made by Dr Solomon Aycle Derso, Commissioner for the African Union Commission for Human and People’s rights, during a working visit to Head quarters MNJTF on Wednesday 21 March 2018, in N’Djamena, Chad.

The AU Commissioner disclosed that his visit was aimed at assessing human rights and compliance challenges from MNJTF operations in the Lake Chad region.

The Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force, Major General Lucky Irabor, appreciated the visit of the Commissioner and his entourage, and made detailed presentation on the mandate of the MNJTF as provided for in the Concept of Operation, the Rules of Engagement of the Force and part three of the Standard Operational Procedure which deal with human rights and related issues.
