  • IN THE COURSE OF ITS OPERATIONS, MNJTF CONTINUES TO STICK TO A ZERO-TOLERANCE POLICY IN ISSUES OF HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION

The Force Commander (FC) MNJTF, Maj Gen AK Ibrahim, today Wednesday 15 March 2023 presided over the closing ceremony for training on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and International Human Right Law (IHRL), jointly organised by the HQ MNJTF and the African Union at Hotel la Tchadienne Ndjamena. In attendance were the Deputy Force Commander MNJTF Brig Gen Assoualai Blama, the Acting Head AU-MST Abdou Mahaman, Chiefs Cell, and other MNJTF staff officers.

Speaking during the event, the FC MNJTF designated some participants from the sectors to give a brief summary of what they each understood from the training. The trainees brilliantly made an overview of what they had learned during the seminar to the satisfaction of the FC. The FC proceeded by thanking the AU-MST for the provision of training and other vital services to the MNJTF while acknowledging that this training comes at a time when the MNJTF is preparing for the next large-scale operation. He further stressed that the MNJTF will continue to strictly comply with IHL and IHRL in the course of its operations while recalling the zero-tolerance policy of the MNJTF in issues of human rights violation.

He equally seized the opportunity to commend the MNJTF troops to have never been cited in any allegation of IHL/IHRL violation despite the tremendous successes recorded during the last operations. He then congratulated the participants who, in three days only, have been able to master the basics of IHL/IH. The FC thereafter enjoined them to sustain momentum and extend the knowledge to their colleagues on the field. He also thanked all the experts and facilitators for working hard for the success of the seminar.

Earlier, the Acting Head of the AU-MST, M. Abdou Mahaman, appreciated the good synergy existing between the MNJTF and AU towards the final eradication of the BHT in the LCB region. He further stressed that the organisation of the training was aimed at enabling the trainees to understand the role played by the human rights units and the need for troops to respect IHL/IHRL in the course of their operations. He thereafter reassured the MNJTF of the AU’s commitment to continuously provide vital support to the MNJTF to facilitate the achievement of her mandate.

The event was hitch-free. Highlights included handing certificates to the trainees and group Photographs.
