The Force Commander (FC), Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General S T Audu, conducted an operational visit to Monguno and Duji in Sector 3 as part of assessment to ascertain continues operational readiness of units and formation under command. The visit was also aimed at reviewing security arrangements, and strengthening border security measures within the Sector to ensure proactiveness, dedication and determination to deal decisively with the menace of terrorist within the lake Chad Basin
While in Monguno, the FC inspected troop deployments and perimeter security positions around the town, including Charlie 16 and Charlie 6. He noted the significant increase in the population of Monguno and other communities within Sector 3, attributing the development to the steady return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees following improvements in the security situation. Major General Audu expressed satisfaction with the progress made in restoring stability to the area and commended the troops for their commitment, resilience and sacrifices in creating a secure environment for the return of displaced persons. He urged them to remain vigilant, resilient, closely monitir the activities in IDPs as well as entensify cordon and search operations within the town and environs and above all be professional in the discharge of their duties in order to consolidate the gains achieved.
The operational assessment visit also took the Force Commander to Duji, a border community adjoining Diffa in the Republic of Niger and located within the area of responsibility of 5 Brigade, Damasak, Mobbar LGA of Borno State. Addressing troops at the location, he underscored the importance of enhanced cooperation and intelligence sharing in monitoring and countering terrorist activities along the Nigeria–Niger border.
He further charged the troops to remain alert and proactive in the conduct of border security operations and patrols, stressing that effective border surveillance remains critical to preventing the movement of terrorists and other criminal elements across boarder and the frontier activities Additionally he highlighted that the COAS and CDS are highly impressed with operational achievements by the troops and they should maintain the tempo. He stated that ASA are ever ready to continue to provide support to them to continue the good job they are doing.
The Force Commander also directed the Acting Commander Sector 3, Brigadier General Saidu S Ahmed, to sustain and strengthen the operational and tactical bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and Niger, particularly in the areas of intelligence sharing and coordinated border security operations. He further tasked the Sector Commander to maintain the current operational tempo in order to neutralise fleeing terrorists and deny them freedom of action within the Lake Chad Basin region. The visit forms part of ongoing efforts by the MNJTF leadership to enhance operational effectiveness and ensure successful execution of various operations aimed at further degrading terrorist capabilities and consolidating security gains across the Lake Chad Basin region.
