The Deputy Force Commander (DFC) MNJTF, Brigadier General Assoualai Blama today 18 February 2023 paid an operational visit to Headquarters Sector 4 at Diffa. The DFC was accompanied on the visit by the Head of African Union Mission Support Team, Mr Abdou Mahaman who led other staff of the AU-MST, Chief J5 Col Moustapha Ousseini, Chief J9 Col Oke Idrissou, and other officers of the MNJTF. The visit in addition to appreciating the efforts of troops of the sector was to present token compensation to relatives of troops Killed in Action (KIA) and those Wounded in Action (WIA) during Operations SHARAN FAGE and LAKE SANITY.

The DFC and his entourage were received on arrival at HQ Sector 4 Diffa by the Governor of Diffa Region, Smaine Younousse and Commander Sector 4, Colonel Major Mamane Sani Kiaou. In his remarks, the DFC stated that he was in the sector to represent the Force Commander MNJTF, Maj Gen AK Ibrahim. He commiserated with the sector on behalf of the FC and the MNJTF over the loss of its troops during the operations. He praised the gallantry of troops of the sector in all MNJTF operations and added that the MNJTF was indeed proud of their exploits. He further commended soldiers of the Sector for their relentless efforts in the fight against the BHT in the LCB region before the commencement of presentation of token compensation to the beneficiaries. The event also witnessed the decoration of some of the soldiers with the MNJTF Operation LAKE SANITY medal by the Governor, DFC, Sector Commander, and other dignitaries at the event.

The Governor in the company of the DFC and his delegation as well as the Commander Sector 4 proceeded to Baroua where they were received by the Mayor of the community before proceeding to the site of a water project for irrigation farming in Baroua which was still under construction. Speaking at the event, the Head of AU-MST Mr Abdou Mahamane stated that it was just a provisional handover before the final completion of the project. He further added that the project was funded by the MNJTF based on the identification of the essential needs of the local population. Farming equipment were also presented to the residents of the community. Also speaking during the event, the Governor of Diffa expressed his appreciation for the provisional handover of the project as well as the farming implements from the MNJTF. He further stressed that the main beneficiaries of the project and the farming tools shall be women while reassuring the MNJTF that he will make sure the project and tools effectively benefit the respective beneficiaries.

The Governor, DFC, and delegation proceeded to Mohamed Bazoum primary school and the Integrated Medical Centre both at Baroua where educational and medical items donated by the MNJTF were presented to the Baroua Community.
Highlights of the visit included donation of token compensation to the WIA and KIA soldiers, medal decoration, presentation of farming tools, educational and medical kits, group photographs and lunch. The DFC and his entourage have since returned to N’Djamena. The visit was hitch free.
