The Turkish government has donated 129 units of the latest generation of night vision equipment to the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), being part of items in the priority list presented by the Force Commander to the African Union. The goggles were handed over at a ceremony organized by the African Union Mission Support Team (AU-MST) recently in N’Djamena.

Speaking during the presentation, the Ambassador of Turkey in Chad Erdal Sabri Ergen noted the enduring relationship which has existed between Turkey and the African union, adding that the donation of the equipment was to further strengthen ties between Turkey and the regional body. He stated that the donation is also aimed at enhancing the operational capability of the MNJTF towards the war against terrorism in the Lake Chad Basin.

In their remarks, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union, Ambassador Zaina Nyiramatama and the Executive Secretary Lake Chad Basin Commission, Ambassador Mamman Nuhu, respectively, commended the Government and people of Turkey for their intervention and urged other international partners to emulate Turkey by donating other critical equipment   to the MNJTF, to enable the force deal decisively with Boko Haram terrorism in the Lake Chad Basin.

The Force Commander, Major General Lucky Irabor also thanked the Government of Turkey for coming to the aid of the force and assured that the night vision goggles will be an additional capability for troops especially as Operation AMNI FAKAT commences.
